What every entrepreneur needs to know about the Peppol obligation from January 1, 2026

Peppol (Pan-European Public Procurement On-Line) is a standardized and secure network for electronic invoicing. It was originally developed to simplify cross-border government procurement, but is now also used for B2B transactions. Peppol enables companies to exchange electronic invoices smoothly and securely in accordance with European standards.
The Belgian government wants to accelerate the transition to e-invoicing in order to reduce administrative burdens, combat fraud and make invoice processing more efficient. Following the mandatory introduction of e-invoicing for B2G (Business-to-Government) in 2024, Peppol will also become the standard for B2B transactions from 2026.
